Ngoi Se Chai from Singapore began his ACCA studies in June 2007 and is currently sitting the Professional level papers. He chose ACCA because of its global reputation: 'ACCA is well recognised all around the world. It has provided me with a strong foundation in accountancy, finance and taxation, which are vital for me to pursue my future career in fund management.
'The best thing about studying the ACCA Qualification is that it is flexible, comprehensive and practical,' says Se Chai. But he is also conscious of the need to put in 100% in order to succeed. 'Lecturers will never be able to cover the whole syllabus,' comments Se Chai, 'so self learning and self discipline are vital.' Se Chai's efforts clearly paid off, as he won the prize for Paper F9 with 92 marks in the June 2008 session.
While he is studying, Se Chai also works for a business consultancy partnership in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. He is very definite in his career goals and aspires to be a successful value investment fund manager.
Already a blogger in his spare time, Se Chai plans to address numerous topics in his ACCA blogs including 'modern financial studies versus the concept of value investing, goal setting and motivation, and the role of accountants and accounting systems in the current financial crisis.' He hopes to inspire others to view things, including accounting and financial knowledge that they have gained, from a practical viewpoint. He also looks forward to receiving comments and feedback from fellow students.
Se Chai's positive attitude to work, life and study is defined by this quote he would like to share: 'Challenges give rise to a vibrant zest for life, and succeeding in our challenges brings immense joy' – Soka Gakkai International president Daisaku Iked.
