Examination time is one of the most challenging periods as we pursue our professional qualifications. It is that time when you begin to wonder whether you have worked hard enough and whether you are actually ready for the paper. You all over a sudden notice that there is an entire topic that you haven't yet read and a friend asks you a question about that topic that you thought you knew and you notice that actually you don't remember a thing. That is further aggravated by the fact that your employer calls you back from your leave or he actually refuses to give you the leave that he had earlier promised. As if that is not enough, as you look through your notes, you notice that a friend borrowed you notes and he is currently on an assignment upcountry or out of the country. At this point you notice that you are between a rock and a hard place but that is not all,.......your family demands that you attend the family meeting because you have dodged all the rest claiming to be "busy" reading.
When you assess all this, your panic button is pushed and you conclude that this won't happen this time round. Some of us conclude that we have already failed the paper and the "wise" thing to do is to relax and prepare ourselves for June 2009, others start thinking back at all the time they wasted,............"I wish I hadn't gone for that trip in October", others quickly conclude who to blame, "It is all my manager's fault,...........i wish he wasn't so mean and inconsiderate" and others just sock themselves in self pity.
All the above responses are what we should avoid. This is the time to build self confidence. Tell yourself that you have done the best in the available time, remind yourself of all the sacrifices you have made, ensure that you have all you need for the paper (docket, calculator, ID etc) and most of all use the remaining time to improve your chances, not to reduce them. Self pity will reduce your chances but hope and determination shall increase them.
Ensure that you don't accept defeat until the exam results are back.........for now we all have an equal chance. The best thing you can do with the time left is to use it to consolidate the marks you already have and ensure that you make some new ones.
Good luck and may God bless your through this challenging period.
