It has been a little while since we escaped the clutches of the Dec 2007 exams that the June 2008 version is standing upon us, waiting to swallow us during its 3 - hour long feasts, as most of us might see it! While some of us are able to get free by proving ourselves competent enough to deal with it, others are unable to do so.
As the registration deadline for the June 2008 exam session, that is, 15th April 2008, approaches, the exam hype is getting bigger and bigger. And so is the exam fever! The mercury is rising, man!! Exams are the talk of the town these days. Every student is trying his/her best to get prepared before time. Though some of them are still relaxed and chilling about, others are really stressed out! I am in between the continuum of 'relaxed - stressed'.
A couple of days ago, I went to submit my exam registration fee at the local ACCA office here in Karachi Pakistan, I was astonished to witness the crowd outside the office that had gathered to submit their fees as well. I was surprised to see the long queue that had lined up there, and students waiting for their turn to get their fees submitted, some checking their bank draft details while some filling out the invoices. At the same time, I felt proud that I am a part of the qualification that is emerging out as a leader in its field.
Being accepted as a brilliant student among my friends and colleagues, I am asked many questions regarding my study style and how am I able to manage exams and get good results. The flow of such questions towards me is increasing as the exams are nearing. Every now and then I am approached by someone asking me about useful tips to use in exams. I often don't know what to answer to such queries and I respond by saying that it is sheer luck that I get good results. Though, I believe that luck has a part to play, but you can't leave everything as it is and wait for your luck to turn out to be good. You must adopt a suitable strategy according to your study style so that you can be prepared well before exams. Although some loopholes are bound to exist, but you always learn from your mistakes.
Good time management is also important, not only during exams but in daily life. You got to take out some time for everything for instance, socializing, studying, sporting and even for relaxing or entertainment. Failure to do so may result in stress, which is a disease in itself. A proper plan should be in mind about how to go about studies and then implemented appropriately. One should be satisfied with his/her preparation before exams, or else, this could negatively impact upon exam performance. I won't recommend any selective preparation as it is likely to demoralize a student if what he has learnt doesn't come up in exams. It should be decided by the student beforehand, how many papers he/she is capable to attempt in a session, considering the syllabus structure of each paper. Any last minute decisions have more chances of not working out favourably than properly planned ones.
As the June 2008 session approaches, the exam fever is rising. Exam nervousness is building up among students and this is clearly visible from their faces and attitudes. Extra classes are being conducted by different institutes to ensure that students prepare for exams before time. Though there is still some time left for exams to begin, one should utilize it to his/her advantage to start preparing if one hasn't already. This time would run lightning fast as always and when you open your eyes, you could be sitting in the exam hall staring at the exam paper. If you study properly, you would feel confident, but if you don't, you would think 'Oh! I should have revised that as well!!'. It would be surprising to see the huge number of students registering for June 2008 exams and it is obvious to think that you are a small fish in an ocean. But if you believe in yourself, you would succeed. Therefore, you got to believe the hype and take it seriously and most importantly, positively!
